Had Indian Politics been converted into a typical Bollywood movie now, the correct dialogue of the hour would be, “Dekho! Dekho wo aa rhi hai !”
Coming back to the news: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has finally entered into Indian politics. After years of denial, she finally said Yes to the Indian National Congress.
She is appointed as the AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East, contesting directly to Fire Hindutva Brand Yogi Adityanath.
Though the fact was known to everyone that she has a say in Congress’ political strategies and candidates’ list, now she is given a formal charge, the first time.
Congress released an official statement signed by Ashok Gehlot stating: “Honourable Congress president has appointed Shrimati Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East. She will be taking charge with effect on the first week of February 2019.”
Along with Priyanka, senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia as AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West and shifted Ghulam Nabi Azad to oversee poll preparations in Haryana. The appointment of the two shows that the grand old party is shifting towards young leaders.
The entry of Priyanka Gandhi proved to be very dramatic (One can speculate so would be her carrier) as national level leaders already had reacted to her entry.
Rahul Gandhi welcomed his sister into formal politics and said that he is happy that his sister would be working with him. When asked about if the Priyanka has come to challenge the SP-BSP coalition, Rahul replied, “We have no enmity with [Bahujan Samaj Party chief] Mayawati Ji and [Samajwadi Party chief] Akhilesh Ji, who have formed a coalition in the state. I respect them. We are ready to cooperate with them wherever possible. Ultimately the aim is to defeat the BJP.”
Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra wrote a post on Facebook and gave wishes to her. “Congratulations P... always by your side in every phase of your life. Give it your best,” wrote Vadra along with a picture of him and Priyanka.
As expected, Bhartiya Janta Party criticised the move of Congress and said it shows that Rahul Gandhi has failed on all sides. BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “The Congress party is a family party, there is no doubt about it. After being rejected from the ‘Mahagathbandhan [grand Opposition alliance]’ everywhere, the party has sought a crutch from within their own family.
They consider family as the party, while BJP considers party as the family.”
Political analysts and experts were saying since past years that Priyanka would be seen as a mirror image of Indira Gandhi if she comes into politics. And so has proved. Congress workers already have picked up posters calling Priyanka as a reincarnation of Indira Gandhi.
Rising above party politics, Former political strategist and Janata Dal (United) leader Prashant Kishor described Vadra’s appointment as “one of the most awaited entries in Indian politics”. Welcoming her entry, Kishor wrote, “One of the most awaited entries in Indian politics is finally here! While people may debate the timing, exact role and position, to me, the real news is that she finally decided to take the plunge! Congratulations and best wishes to Priyanka Gandhi.”
Though her election seat is not announced yet, it has been speculated that Priyanka may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election either from Amethi on Rae-Bareli. Amethi is the seat of Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Rae-Bareli, of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
