After Kashmir Kidnappings, police chief replaced

SP Vaid, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief was removed from his responsibilities on Thursday evening. This decision was taken as a part of a reshuffle on a higher level. The decision comes after days from the serious differences between the police chief and central government after he was stripped of vital administrative powers. Another trigger of this decision is supposed to be the release of a terrorist’s father in exchange for the family members that were kidnapped. The family members were of the state’s policemen that were kidnapped last week.

The Director General of Prisons, Dilbagh Singh is supposed to take place of Vaid who was the 1987-batch IPS Officer.

He was suspended as the Deputy Inspector General of Anantnag in 2000. It was found that he was involved in the major recruitment scam that becomes his downfall.

On Tuesday evening, seven Dr B Srinivas replaced Abdul Gani, the state intelligence chief. Last week, the total of three policemen along with their eight relatives were kidnapped in the South of Kashmir by terrorists. They were released after a few hours when police officers released the family of terrorists which were around a dozen members along with Hizbul Mujahideen, the father of Commander Riaz Naikoo.

As per the sources of Home Ministry the released was believed to have affected the morale of the rank and also the file of the state Jammu and Kashmir at a huge level. It is also believed that the top officers actually misjudged the whole situation and the impact of this single decision.

The sources have some of the serious differences have cropped up between the Governor Administration and Vaid after which the officer was suspended from his duties and to make certain decisions. The authority was then given to the ADG Law and Order Munir Khan. However, there was a strong protest by Vaid with the Union Home Secretary and State Government.

Jammu and Kashmir were under the rule of the governor since the time BJP ended their alliance with PDP in June. Last month, Satyapal Malik replaced NN Vohra as a Governor.
Vaid tweeted and talked about his transfer, saying, "@JmuKmrPolice has been fighting a proxy war for decades which requires a lot of courage & determination of the men & officers of JKP. Speculative articles which undermine their morale should be avoided. @ndtv as regards to transfer, it's routine matter & prerogative of the govt,"
