Social Activist and Gandhian Anna Hazare claimed that the Rafale “scam” would not have happened if Lokpal was there in the first place.
Hazare announced a hunger strike for the demands of farmers that are not met yet and implementation of the anti-corruption law. He is going to sit on a hunger strike from January 30.
He also attacked Modi Government for not passing the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013 despite the fact it was ordered by the Supreme Court.
Apart from the announced hunger strike in upcoming January, Anna Hazare has gone under two major strike for the Lokpal. He went for a hunger strike on April 2011 for the first time, along with several civil society members like Arvind Kejriwal, Yogendra Yadav, Kiran Bedi etc, for passing Lokpal Bill.
Hazare called for a conference and talked to the media. There he claimed, “If Lokpal was there, a scam like Rafale would not have happened. I have plenty of papers on Rafale and I will hold a separate press conference after studying it for two days. One thing I do not understand how a company formed a month ago before the deal was made partner in it.”
He said that the time period of the strike will be indefinite, which means that his trike will continue until his demands are met. He is planning to do it in his home-village Ralegan Siddhi.
Adding more on the issue, Anna said, “In the past, the government said in writing that they will implement Lokpal law and provide pensions and 1.5 times of minimum support price to the farmers but did nothing. Now I will not have any more false assurances and continue the hunger strike till there is life in my body.”
Anna was often criticised by various social intellectuals for not speaking a word against the BJP government. But this time, Anna shut his critiques up with a severe attack on BJP Government. "This government is not concerned about the farmers. It is concerned only for industrialists whose loans running in lakhs of crores of rupees have been waived,” Anna claimed.
