Atal Bihari Vajpayee – The honour of India– lost but can never be forgotten

On 25th December 1924, a hero was born that took the world with fire to Krishna Devi and Krishna Bihari Vajpayee. His grandfather migrated from Bateshwar to Gwalior where he completes his schooling and graduation. He completes his post graduation from Kanpur and become an activist with Arya Kumar Sabha of Gwalior. In 1939, he joined Rashtriya Swatamsevak Sangh (RSS) and then during 1940-44 he got inspired by Babasaheb Apte, he attended RSS camp. He even worked at newspapers before starting his career as a politician. However, he wrote his whole life to the welfare of India and never got married.

In 1957, he debuts his speech in parliament that impressed Jawaharlal Nehru, then PM, to the core that he predicted that ‘this young man will one day become prime minister’ while introducing him to the foreign dignitary and so he did. On top of that, he did it thrice. He ruled the nation in 1996 for 13 days, 1998 for 13 months and in 1999 for the total span of 5 years.

Not only this, he was also the first non-Congress to capture the seat of PM making him the first person to challenge the legacy of Congress. In parliament, he has worked for 47 years and managed to capture the whole nation with his oratory and wit. He was not the man of speeches only, he believed in what he said and he proved it to the whole nation from time to time.

In May 1996, Vajpayee made a statement saying, "Satta ka Khel chalega (the game of power will go on). Governments will come and go. Parties will be made and unmade. This country should survive, its democracy should survive," However, this led to his 13-days government download. But he managed to come back with a bang.

In 1998, he talked about Pokhran nuclear tests, "It is surprising that people are criticizing the nuclear tests. When in 1974 then prime minister Indira Gandhi had carried out the tests, we welcomed it even while we were in the opposition. Was there any threat to the nation at the time,"

Leadership was his forte, but poetry was his passion, he has written a number of amazing write up that has left everyone speechless.

1962 – Rajya Sabha Debut that led to him winning an election after 9 years.
1975 – Prison due to the Emergency rule
1977 – Started as a Foreign Minister
In 1984 – he lost in Gwalior as well, after the assassination of Indira Gandhi
In 1990- he captured the attention with Ram Janmabhoomi movement
1984-1999 – he raised from zero to top forming his third government.

He managed to get Bharat Ratna after 16 years but he slowly started to retreat himself from public eyes and was barely seen.

Since 2009, his health started to show the negative effects and then in June 2018, he was admitted in AIIMS Delhi.
He took his last breath at 05:05 pm on 16th August 2018.
