CPI (M) leader Nirupam Sen dies at 72

CPI(M) leader and former West Bengal minister Nirupam Sen is reported to be died on Monday morning.  According to a news report by PTI, Nirupam was suffering from cardiac problems and Cardiac Arrest is speculated to be the reason behind his death.  He was 72 when he breathe his last breath.
 
A family member of Nirupam talked to the news agency and said that Nirupam was suffering from many cardiac problems and was being treated at a local city hospital. He was in life support system since this December.
 
A CPI(M)  official said off the record to News18, that his body will be cremated in Burdwan Oma, the hometown of Nirupam on Wednesday. Nirupam was a former Bengal commerce and industry minister.
 
He left behind his wife a son and daughter.
 
Sen suffered from cerebral attack in 2013 but survived that with some impairments.  According to the hospital official, Nirupam was also fighting with several kidney ailments.
 
According to a News 18 report, he was the chief architect of the industrial Reform drive in the state during the Buddhadev Bhattacharya administration. He also played a major role in the industrial development in Singur and Nandigram but the move caused the decline of the communist government in the state.
 
A statement by the Communist Party of India states that Nirupam's body would first be taken to his residence and then to a private mortuary.  According to the officials. “On Wednesday, Sen’s body will be taken to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions office. “After that, it will be taken to the party’s state headquarters where people will be allowed to pay their last respect.”
 
Many national level leaders including Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Communist Party of India supremo Sitaram Yechury expressed their condolences with his family.  Mamata Banerjee showed her condolences by tweeting, “Saddened at the passing away of Nirupam Sen, former Minister of West Bengal. Condolences to his family and well-wishers.”
