As per the reports of the Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman launched Saudi Arabia’s first Nuclear reactor research centre. The foundation stone of the research centre was laid by Crown Prince on Monday.
Crown Prince Salman launched seven projects in recent times. All of them are in the area of Renewable energy. According to a report by Al Jazeera, those projects are atomic energy, water desalination, genetic medicine and the aircraft industry. He started these projects while he was on his visit to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh on Monday.
The Prince earlier announced this nuclear project when he was addressing the kingdom on Iran’s directions in March. He said, “Saudi Arabia would develop nuclear weapons in the event that Iran heads in that direction.
To a reporter of CBS News, Crown Prince said, “Saudi Arabia does not want to acquire any nuclear bomb, but without a doubt, if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.”
Iran and Saudi Arabia are among the most powerful forces in the Gulf region and are on constant cold war for a few years. Crown Prince denied that Iran is even not a threat to Saudi Arabia. He said that Iran’s army was not among top fives in the region and that Saudi Arabia’s economy is much larger than that of Iran’s.
According to a statement released by The International Atomic Energy Agency, The Saudi government had invited proposals for the construction of two nuclear power reactors. The plan of the Arabic government is to start one of the biggest projects in the world which would generate 17.6 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2032, the equivalent of about 17 reactors.
As per the reports of News agency Reuters, Saudi Government earlier was using its own crude oil to generate Electricity but now they want to export more crude oil to other countries and generate electricity by Nuclear power as it would cost them much lesser.
