Ex-Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended the funeral of Kulsoom Nawaz with daughter

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif is currently in jail along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (Retd) Muhammad Safdar. On Wednesday, they reach Lahore when they were released from Adiala Jail Rawalpindi on a parole of 12-hours just to attend the funeral of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

On Tuesday, Nawaz Sharif’s wife, Kulsoom Nawaz died I London where she lost the fight against cancer. The 68-year-old Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was brought back to Lahore and then buried in Jati Umra Lahore which is the resident of the family.

Nawaz Sharif along with daughter and son-in-law were transported to their resident so that they can pay their respect. They were send off on a special plant from Nur Khan Airbase Rawalpindi to Jalti Umra in early hours of Wednesday. The Punjab Government home department issued an order to release the family on a 12-hour parole. The trio reached Lahore around 3:15 am.

As per the Pakistan Muslim League spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb, Shahbaz Sharif filed an application to release the trio so that they can perform the funeral on the five days parole for the Begum Kulsoom Nawaz. The Punjab Government considered but not entertained the five-day parole, the request of Shahbaz Sharif and released his brother Nawaz along with niece Maryam and Safdar for only 12-hours parole.

She added, "We are hopeful that the government will extend the parole till the funeral of Begum Kulsoom to be held on Friday in Lahore,"

However, a senior official said that the parole will be extended for few hours until the last rituals are completed. "Since Kulsoom' body is scheduled to arrive here on Friday there is no point of not extending the parole period. The government has allowed Mr Sharif to attend the funeral prayer of his wife purely on humanitarian grounds," 

"In pursuance of rule 545-B of Pakistan Prison Rules 1978, permission granted to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, confined at central prison Rawalpindi, to attend the funeral prayer of Kulsoom Nawaz. The duration of permission granted shall not exceed 12w hours. Police will be responsible for their security and safety. They will not leave the place (Jati Umra) specified in the permission order." Said the notification of the home department.

Nawaz Sharif and Kulsoom got married in 1971 April and were blessed with four children – Maryam, Hassan, Hussain and Asma.
