Takht is the next venture of Dharma Production with a promise made by the director Karan Johar to ensure the limelight on the ensemble cast and the new writers of his production house. The two writers have penned down the script of the magnum opus. The screenplay writer Sumit Roy has teamed up with Hussain Haidry for the dialogues.
However, when the film was announced, Karan didn’t forget to thanks Somen Mishra who is the Head of Development of Dharma Production that has introduced the two amazing and budding writers to the filmmaker. Mishra wanted to add the writers in the new venture and he was all set to do so.
"I know Sumit from a script lab where our scripts were selected. So since then, we would read each other's scripts and bounce ideas. I really like his writing, so when I joined Junglee Pictures, I got him on board to develop a superhero script for us. Later, when I joined Dharma, he pitched a Historical concept. That didn't work out but that's how the conversation started till we found a story that got us all excited,"
The most important step was to convince Karan for his next venture. The writers with no prior experience made it all too tough to convince him for the mainstream film. However, with Karan Johar known to encourage new talent on and off screen, it was not such a big thing to do. He is also famous to launch star kids including Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Jahnvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter and Anaya Pandey. He even found Tara Sultaria and Sidharth Malhotra.
Not only this, Karan has managed to add new talent to the film industry with the new voices as well. Ayan Mukherjee (Wake up Sid!), Siddharth P Malhotra (We are Family), Tarun Mansukhani (Dostana) are just a few names out of the big list.
Misra added, "Karan loves promoting new talent and he completely trusts you once you have proved yourself. So he gave me that freedom to pick writers. Sumit not being experienced in writing big films earlier was never a factor. He is a good writer, has studied history and truly enjoys that space. That reflected in his writing and he was on after he wrote the first concept note for Takht,"
The movie will star Janhvi Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Vicky Kaushal is to be released in 2020.
