Meet Nirmala Sitharaman: The very first woman finance minister

In the Narendra Modi cabinet, the departments have been divided among the respective ministers. The charge of the Ministry of Finance has been entrusted to Nirmala Sitharaman. With this, she became the first woman finance minister of India.

During the previous tenure of the Modi government, she became the first female defense minister. There was a time when Indira Gandhi kept the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Defense for some time while being the Prime Minister.
But Nirmala Sitharaman will now have full-time finance ministry for 5 years. Apart from this, she has been given the responsibility of holding the portfolio of Corporate Affairs.
Born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Nirmala Sitharaman took her school education from Tiruchirappalli. She has done Bachelor of Economics from Sitelakshmi Ramaswamy College. At the same time, she got a master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. Nirmala Sitharaman's father was a railway worker, so her childhood was spent in many states.
Before this, Arun Jaitley had requested not to be in finance ministery due to his poor health. After this, there was speculation that who will be entrusted to the Finance Ministry? Piyush Goyal's name was going on the priority in this race. But PM Modi entrusted him with the charge of the Ministry of Railways.
After the swearing-in ceremony, different concepts were being made about the ministries, which were stopped. Rajnath Singh, who took oath after PM Modi, has been given the Defense Ministry. Amit Shah has been made Home Minister. Former Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar has been made Foreign Minister. Apart from Nitin Gadkari's share of road transport, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has come. The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Textiles have come to in the charge of Smriti Irani.
