Bhartiya Janta Party’s website is down since it was hacked 11 days ago. There is no update about the website by the party’s IT cell.
The BJP is often called the most tech-savvy party of India. It used Social Media in 2014 to lure voters when most of the leaders from the other parties didn’t even have facebook accounts. But, a recent development came out as a major embarrassment for the party.
The website BJP dot org was hacked on March 5 by some unknown hackers. The intention of the hacking was to mock the party.
Just minutes after the hacking, people shared screenshots on Twitter that a meme featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel was shown on the website.
Bhaiya aur Bhehno if you’re not looking at the BJP website right now- you’re missing out
Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad talked to some reporters in the Digital India Summit in New Delhi and said, “There are rogue elements in the society. The site was hacked only for a few minutes. We got back control very soon.”
There is no official statement, however, of when the website will be back online.
“The website could have been brought back up in a matter of hours. But we decided to use the bugging as an opportunity to complete a plan to revamp it. The plan had been in place for two to three months. The site’s technology had not been upgraded for five years,” told an identified official to the Media House NDTV.
Experts are saying that restoring the data on a website in case of a crash or hack is just a matter of hours, provided that they have the backup data. The experts are speculating that maybe BJP has lost the entire backup data, but they are not disclosing it in public as it will give a chance to opposition to make a mockery out of it.
