Sabarimala row: Woman who tried to enter Sabarimala temple arrested over FB post

Sabarimala is making its place in the news, one way or other. A woman who earlier was one the women who tried to enter in the temple is now arrested for hurting religious sentiments.

 

Rehana Fatima was arrested today by police for hurting people’s sentiments with some FB posts.

 

She was arrested from her office in Palarivattom in Kochi.

 

A person with name Radhakrishna Menon lodged an FIR against Fatima. Fatima is a social activist and a BSNL employee. She was working in her office when the police arrived and took her under arrest.

 

She is arrested under Section 295A of the IPC Act. Section 295A means deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs

 

After the arrest, Fatima was taken to Pathanamthitta Police station.

 

According to a news report by the news minute, many facebooks post published by Fatima was found to be offensive by some Ayyappa devotees. She also posted a picture of her addressed as an Ayyappa devotee, wearing a rudraksha, with ‘Thathvamasi’ written over it.

 

 

The news of her arest is making some noise on Facebbok as she is a well nown social worker. Fatima was among the first of the group of women who tried to enter in the Sabarimala Mandir when it was opened for a pooja in October.

 

It is not the first movement in which Fatima has participated. She also took part in ‘Kiss of Love movement’ movement in 2014. She was involved in the movement in Kochi against moral policing by several right-wing groups.

 

 

The supreme court clearly allowed the entry of women of every age to enter in the Sabarimala Mandir.

 

Fatima sought anticipatory bail from the high court, but the court denied it.
