In a shocking match played yesterday England knocked defending champions Australia to storm into 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup finals. England will face New Zealand in the finals at Lord’s on July 14 to claim their way to the World Cup trophy.
Although this has come as a shock to many cricket fans, this phase of the clash between these two titans was not expected before the start of the tournament. This is the fourth time England reached World Cup final finals; on the other hand for New Zealand, this is the second successive final World Cup.
In 2015, New Zealand has lost to Australia in the clash for the title. Previously England had entered the World Cup finals in years of 1975, 1987 and 1992 before smashing their way in finals of 2019. In the nail-biting match, England has smashed five-time world champion Australia to bowl out at 223. Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid came out as the winner for the England team as they took three wickets each. Zofra archer also did his part by taking three wickets that too in his maiden game.
While chasing the target of 223 runs England looked confident as Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow made a wonderful partnership of 124 runs for the first wicket, Mitchell Starc has broken the record of Glen McGrath for taking most wickets in a single edition of the World Cup.
The captain of the Australian team won the toss and decided to bat first. David Warner finished at 647 runs in the World Cup just one run short of the tournament’s highest score of Rohit Sharma. All the hopes on the Australian side die out as soon as Steve Smith got run out for 85 runs.
20 years ago a similar situation was faced by Australian team where they pulled out a stunning tie match against South Africa in the semi-final, but due to higher score they rushed to finals but nothing is going to happen at this World Cup as the team England has rushed to the finals with sensational victory over the Australian counterpart.
