The Aam Aadmi Party of Delhi has made a big announcement before the assembly elections. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that consumers of Delhi, who are using power up to 200 units, will not have to make any payment as bills.
Kejriwal announced that the Delhi government will provide full subsidy to the consumers of Delhi using power up to 200 units. He said that the government will continue to provide 50 percent subsidy on the use of electricity from 201 to 401 units. Kejriwal said that this will encourage power saving in power. Those who used power up to 200 units had to pay Rs 622 till yesterday, now free will be available.
Delhi BJP President Manoj Tewari welcomed the decision to free up the Kejriwal government's 200 units. Manoj Tiwari said, "We are happy that our struggle has done at least so much that only 200 people have the right to get free power assurance. Now when will it start? I do not know the bill after one month will tell if it actually comes with the bill.
Prior to this, electricity charges were reduced in Delhi on Wednesday. Justice SS Chauhan, chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), said that upto 2 kilowatts would be Rs 20 per KW, which till now was Rs 125 per kW. On the other hand, per unit charge has been increased to more than 1200 units of consumption. So far, it was 7.75 rupees, which is now 8 rupees per unit. At the same time, Chauhan said that fix charge for 2 to 5 kW was upto Rs 140 per kW which was 50 rupees per kW. So far, connections of 5 to 15 kw have been charged Rs 175 per kw which has been converted to 100 rupees per kilowatt.
