If I Have To Proof My Religion I Would Prefer To Die: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that it would be better for her to die than prove her religion. The Chief Minister has challenged the BJP to compare many religious activities done by the Trinamool Congress government with the earlier state government.

He said that Durga Puja was widely held in the state under the Trinamool Congress rule, compared to the old governments. Inaugurating a museum built on the famous 15th century saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu of Bengal, the Trinamool Congress supremo said that he is a Hindu but he has reverence for every creed and religion.

Mamata Banerjee targeted the central government on the notice of income tax to the worship committees
Without naming the BJP, Banerjee said that it would be better for me to die than to prove my own religion before entering any temple. You are not someone before whom I have to prove my religion. The BJP has many times accused Banerjee of appeasing the Muslim community to get minority votes. This reply of the Trinamool Congress has come at a time when the BJP is accusing the state government of curtailing Durga Puja events here. The Chief Minister said that the BJP should focus on the work done by itself after coming to power at the central government.
Banerjee said that I challenge them to compare the religious work of our eight-year-old government with the old governments. We believe in humanity and religion means humanity. It teaches us to love and respect every human being. Religion does not teach us to divide people. The Chief Minister said that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu preached love and peace to the people. People attacked him as happened on social reformer Raja Rammohan Roy, but these people never returned.
Recently Mamata Tweeted About Durga Puja
In her latest tweet, Mamata tweeted that the Income Tax Department has issued notices to several committees conducting Durga Puja and asked them to pay taxes. We are proud of all our national festivals. These festivals are for everyone and we do not want any worship committee to be taxed, this will increase the burden on the organizers. Referring to the Ganga Sagar Fair, Mamata Banerjee said that her government had withdrawn the tax on the annual festival.
Mamata further wrote that the Bangla government withdrew the tax at the Ganga Sagar fair, which was earlier thought. We demand that no tax should be levied on Durga Puja and Durga Puja committees. The CM urged people to join the August 13 protest at Kolkata's Subodh Malik.
