After Congress has faced serious election debacle in 2019 followed by giving up the position of party president by Rahul Gandhi, many senior politicians have owed Sonia Gandhi to take up the charge as interim president. They claim that this will help the party to overcome the fear of breaking alliances.
In response to the recent event of loss to BJP with huge margins, his son has given up the responsibility of the president, the gruesome performance in this Lok Sabha polls has bought a lot of criticism to the party.
In the past Sonia Gandhi has served as the Congress president for 19 long years which covered the 10 years of UPA rule, she handed over the charge to her son in 2018. “The 72-year-old who has managed to fulfill all the political responsibilities during her life but is currently suffering from health issues; this makes it impossible for her to take the top job even temporary right now, as this could create a major challenge to her health” Congress spokesperson said
“As Rahul Gandhi has refused to reconsider his decision for resignation many senior Congress leaders have met Sonia Gandhi and pleaded to take the step,” said a source from the party
Soon after the resignation of Rahul Gandhi, party witnesses line of resignations all across the country including many key politicians as well as several state unit chiefs, top leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Milind Deora has too quitted soon after Rahul Gandhi’s exit.
Right now Congress has failed to build a consensus to replace Rahul Gandhi and bring a new face in place of him.
When questioned regarding the same Sonia Gandhi refused to comment on the crisis going within the party right now. Even though the ex-president Rahul Gandhi has committed for staying connected, the whole incident has created a vacuum in the leadership of the top-notch position within the party and the status of distortions due to the current scenario
